The Law of Design

If you don’t design your life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they may have planned for you, Not much! Jim Rohn
In his book, 15 Laws of Growth John Maxwell speaks of the Law of Design and it states that; To maximize growth, Develop Strategy. There is no substitute for being strategic otherwise you will spend the rest of your life wandering about. Most people allow their lives to simply happen to them, they float along, they wait, and react. This usually leads to one living in a complacency mode and playing the blame game. Remember growth starts when you decide to take 100% responsibility for your life. This solution to this is designing your life plan. You cannot build a house without drawing the designs. You have to glance back to plan forward. Recognize the power of reflection, It allows you to see where you are and gives you room to design your future. (purpose of reflection.)
The secret to a great strategy is in its simplicity. What good is it to have a sophisticated strategy that is difficult to implement? It will not yield any results. Here are some key questions to ask yourself to see if your strategy well structured.
- Can it be received personally?
- Can it be repeated easily?
- Can it be transferred strategically?\
When you develop a strategy for your personal growth, business or any area of your life remember to keep it personal, repeatable, and transferrable. A beautifully conceived strategy does you no good if you can’t use it.
If you love holidays and birthdays half as much as I do, think of the time that you spend planning your birthday/holiday celebration. The detail from outfit, make-up, activity, and food. What if you channel that energy into designing your life and being intentional about it. Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon says, “Many people worry so much about managing their careers but rarely spend half that much energy managing their lives. I want to make my life, not just my job, the best it can be. The rest will work itself out.” Planning your life is about finding yourself, knowing who you are, and then customizing a design for your growth. Once you draw the blueprint for your life, then you can apply it to your career because only then, you have a blueprint of what your life should look like. When you feel like you are stuck or frustrated with life check your blueprint.
Reminding yourself that life is not a dress rehearsal should be motivation enough for you to develop your life strategy.
You only live once. But if you work it right, once is enough – Fred Allen

I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents. I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now. Lilli Willard Dallon
