Pause: Let Growth Catch Up With You

Persistence is one of the most important characteristic of a high achiever, Infect we are always encouraging one another to keep on trying again until the desired outcome is achieved. Sometimes putting your dreams on hold or changing your approach to attaining them might seem like we are calling it quits, or throwing in the towel. What happens if you are persistent in doing the wrong thing?, It gets you further away from your dreams instead of closer. Think about it this way, you want to reach north but you are persistently using strategies that can only get you south. This can only bring about frustration in your life, and feeling frustrated is a warning that you need to change something you are doing.

It is important to take time to reflect on your strategies. Only a fool as the old saying says; does the same thing over and over again and expect different results. Be persistent in achieving your goal but be flexible in the approach to getting there. It’s so easy to get caught in wanting to have your way that you miss the right strategies that can enable you to achieve your dreams. Being fixated on one way of doing something producing zero results does not need one to continue being Persistent, you need to reflect and let growth catch up with you.

Importance of Reflection

Reflection according to Oxford dictionary – Serious thought/ Consideration/ Study,

Reflection according to Merriam Webster: A thought, idea or opinion formed on a remark made as a result of meditation.

I like how Merriam Webster uses the word Meditation which means you have to think, give focus and ponder. There is a popular cliché that says experience is the best teacher, if that were true every old person would have been wise. John Maxwell says that evaluated experience is the best teacher. This shows the importance of reflecting in any area of your life. Reflection allows to gain wisdom on what works and what does not. Be Persistent to achieve your dream but always be flexible to the strategy which you use. Frequent reelection, not only help set the tone for the upcoming strategy, but also gives positive reinforcement to all that was accomplished. Reflecting allows you to see whether or not you are still on the right track in achieving your dreams or drifting further away from them.

How To Reflect.

During this process look at the situation as the third party, because the observer always gets to learn. Be in the right state, the state you are in can have a great influence on your reflection ( if you want to know how to put yourself in the right state, I suggest you listen to Anthony Robbins). It is important to have a pen and paper or your iPad with you so that you can write everything down for a later review. Start by asking yourself questions. Asking the right questions brings about the right answers, so ask good questions if you would like to be successful in any area of your life. For example, if you would like to reflect on your day you can ask yourself the following questions

  1. On a scale of 1 -10 how was my productivity today?
  2. What were my accomplishments?
  3. What challenges did I face?
  4. What can I do to make my tomorrow better?

Answering these questions can help you cut off what is not working in order for you to have a higher productivity rate, this can help you to create better strategies as well. Lastly, During your reflection time make it a priority that you do not have any distractions. Go to a quiet place and stay away from your phone for a while.

Reflection is one of the most important growth tools I use in my daily life. The principle of reflection can aid your growth and development causing you to live your best life and become the best version of YOU!!!
