The exhaustion of not having a clear mind
Does your mind ever go into a spiral of thought after thought and when you take a deep breath you can feel that you have been putting in a lot of work mentally? The crazy part is you can not pinpoint what is causing you to fret. You are constantly picking up a thought and dropping it for the next one. It’s like having a closet full of unfolded clothes both clean and unclean. It becomes difficult to locate your favorite pair of sweatpants, even just looking at them is exhausting.

Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present. The dictionary definition of mindfulness is; a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. Mindfulness allows you to declutter your mind by getting rid of future and past thoughts and just focusing on the now. Mindfulness means when you are hand-washing dishes, focus on each cutlery piece/ or tupperware instead of thinking of what you want to do next. When spending time with loved ones, let your body, mind, and soul be present instead of scrolling through your mobile phone.
Simple Steps To Practice Mindfulness And Help You Attain A Clear Mind
- Focus on your breathing
- Listen To your Body, feel every muscle limb and breathing pattern
- Pay attention
- Live in the moment
- Accept Your Self – Constantly trying to escape from yourself will clutter your mind
2. Exercise
It’s usually difficult to start engaging in an exercise, but the good part is when you start you build momentum and feel good after the workout. According to medical experts, when you exercise your body releases chemicals called endorphins. Endorphins trigger a positive feeling in your body. They help relieve pain, reduce stress, and improve your sense of well-being.
Another important chemical released through exercise is dopamine. It’s important for some processes in your body including regulating heart rate, sleep cycles, mood, attention, motivation, working memory, learning, and pain processing
3. Creating a clutter-free environment
According to an article by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, The visual distraction of clutter increases cognitive overload and can reduce our working memory. A 2011 study by neuroscientists found that clearing clutter from the home and work environment resulted in a better ability to focus and process information, as well as increased productivity. I love what Terri Savelle Foy says, your environment is a direct representation of your state of mind.
Try decluttering your environment and, then observe the tremendous benefits on your mental state.
4. Journaling Your Thoughts
Keeping a journal helps you analyze your thoughts and it gives you an opportunity to gain clarity on what’s going on in your mind. Sometimes you can find yourself worried and yet can not define exactly what causes you to worry. I find journaling a great way to understand my own thoughts and feelings almost in a third-person view. It helps with externalizing your thoughts.
Research from the American Psychological Asssocian says that journaling can help decrease intrusive thoughts and other mental “clutter.” As a result, working memory and other cognitive functions can operate more smoothly and potentially relieve stress at the same time.
5. Talking about it
Talking to someone who has their cup full and runneth over (having adequate mental, emotional and physical energy) can help you organize your thoughts and clear your mind. Be mindful of who you talk to. Some individuals can leave you worse than when you spoke to them. Discussing the things clogging your mind can help you see them from a different perspective and lay them down logically. talking to a trusted friend can leave you feeling energized and in turn more productive.
6. Music
This can be subjective but I find listening to good music for me help clear my mind and be productive. Music is a common tool used for stress management. It has an amazing effect on both your mind and body. It all depends on the kind of music you are exposing yourself to. listening to one song can ignite hope within you and completely change the trajectory of your life. It also helps with increasing productivity and maxing your concentration period.
