A Healthy Lifestyle Is Part Of Personal Development
I love personal development because it allows one to grow not in just one specific area of our life. But when you invest in yourself through personal growth, every area of your life changes for the better. I love what Terri Savelle says, the way you do anything is the way we do everything. The goal is to live as the best of yourselves right, constantly growing that is personal development. Whenever one talk about personal development most people tend to think of goals, relationships career the list is endless. Rarely are people intentional about their health. We tend to forget that our health is our wealth. It’s difficult to enjoy all the other successes that come with personal development if we have ill health. Your health goes beyond your body weight and a hot girl’s summer body. In this week’s personal growth strategy, we will focus on our most incredible wealth, our health. It’s important to note that health is not a one-day event, to cultivate good health, one needs to develop a healthy lifestyle.
Why a healthy lifestyle is Important
One day of practicing healthy habits does not make you healthy. That is why the famous old adage says an apple a day keeps the doctor away not 10 apples on a sick day keeps the doctor away. Never underestimate the power of compounding, for you to be healthy, you need to develop a healthy lifestyle and be consistent. Vitality plays a huge role in living the life of your dreams and going after your goals. And it comes with adopting a healthy lifestyle. Aim to be healthy enough to enjoy your success and achievement. A healthy lifestyle is important for your mental health as well, which I believe contributes to successful emotional and spiritual wellness.
Why do many people find it difficult to be healthy?
Have you ever tried to be in the best shape for an upcoming event? It could be a birthday, wedding, or dinner party. Most people set goals to look good for a certain event, and it’s not a bad thing. But what happens after the event is you indulge in a lot of unhealthy activities that promote fatigue illnesses at the end of the day. We often underestimate the value of consistency. If you adopt a healthy lifestyle, you do not need to vigorously prepare for an upcoming event because chances are you are already in shape. Setting health goals for a specific event is what causes a number of people to not be healthy. Adopt it as a lifestyle and you will enjoy the rewards.
Studies show that 80% of diseases are due to lifestyle factors. And exercising is likely to reduce the chance of getting Alzheimer’s by 70%.
Some researchers have studied the places with the highest life expectancy around the world, with the population of old people still looking physically fit, healthy, and still contributing members of the community. These areas are called the blue zones. Places in the blue zones include,
- Okinawa Japan
- Ikaria Greece
- Lama Linda, Carlifonia
- Sardinia, Italy
- Nicoya Costa Rica
The bases of why these communities have longevity goes down to food choices, exercising, and a sense of purpose and belonging in life. There are so many other factors that contribute to a healthy lifestyle but these ones are the basic ones.
So how can one develop a healthy lifestyle?

Diet
What we consume each day has a huge impact on our health. Being intentional with your diet can save you a lot of money in the future. Eating from fast food restaurants on a daily basis will result in you frequently falling ill. Am I saying, never eat at fast food restaurants? No. But let it not be consistent. Besides eating out daily can be a bad financial decision for many. Not everyone has the capacity to cook, but instead of ordering chicken drenched in oil, opt for healthier restaurants or hire an in-house chef just so you can have a healthy diet. The goal is to nourish your body, try and make sure you are consuming adequate nutrients.
In the blue zones area, the most effective diet is the one that contains unprocessed foods, and less red meat.
One way, of making sure you are intentional about your diet is planning ahead. When you decide on what to eat on an empty stomach you are likely to have what will make you full the quickest without considering nutritional value.
Eating healthy is not supposed to be a one-day thing but a lifestyle. And your processed & junk food should be what is consumed once in a blue moon.
Exercise| Move your body
The automobile kills more people by depriving them of the opportunity to walk than by hitting them ~ unknown author
Staying active helps with your overall healthy lifestyle. You do not need to have vigorous hours of cardio or weight lifting, all you need to do is be intentional about moving your body. Instead of taking a car you can cycle or take a walk. instead of opting for the elevator, you can intentionally take the stairs. Nowadays most of our jobs do not require us to move as compared to the olden days. We spend more than 8 hours sitting in our offices, go home sit on the couch watching tv. Our bodies barely get the time to be active.
According to mayoclinic and WebMD ( an exercise & fitness website), these are some of the side effects of sitting for long hours
- obesity
- Increased blood pressure
- High blood sugar
- unhealthy cholesterol levels
- excess body fat around the waist
- increases the risk of dementia
- odds for diabetes increases
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- backaches
- varicose veins
