5 Tips to help you finish 2021 Strong.

I once heard Tony Robbins say, “if you do what you did at the beginning of a relationship there will never be an end”. Coming to think of it, when a relationship is hanging by a thread you start noticing behavior change. Communication becomes poor, efforts shift attention drifts, excuses, and fights increase. This same concept applies to your relationship with your goals. If you have the same enthusiasm, discipline, and focus that you had when you embarked on the mission to see your dream come to life, there will never be a failure. No doubt 2021 had so many challenges for different people, many of us if not all had their fair share. Obstacles have a way of slowly drawing out strength from us, we slowly lose hope, shift from being excited to create the life that we want to try to barely survive. If you do not become intentional about living your dreams, you will get carried away by the hardships of life. What we focus on is what we magnify and it tends to be our reality. We are coming to the end of the year 2021, and many people have lost their drive for different reasons, the economy, loss of their loved ones, the feeling of stagnation, loss of hope, and many other reasons I could not pen down. I want to encourage you to be intentional about finishing the year 2021 strong. Like I always say in all my blog posts you have to take 100% responsibility for your life. Be intentional. Intentionally implement habits to help you stay on track.

Below are 5 tips that can help you finish 2021 on a high note.

  1. Channel the same energy you had in the beginning.

It doesn’t really matter how you start, it’s about how you end. When you are starting, your motivation levels are on the high. Motivation gets you going but discipline keeps you growing. It’s easy to do something when you feel like it, but to be honest you will not always feel like it. When you teach yourself to do something even when you don’t feel like it, you are building energy that can not be easily displaced. You are creating discipline and momentum. To keep the same energy levels that you had when you embarked on the journey to turn your dreams into reality you need to build momentum and rely on discipline instead of feelings.

2. Good Company

One of my favorite personal development philosophers Jim Rohn stated “ you become like the 5 people you spend the most time with, choose carefully”. To finish 2021 strong, surround yourself with people that align with your goals. Spend time with big-minded people, don’t share your dreams with small-minded people because they will suffocate your dream before it comes to fruition. Take time to list the 5 closest people to you right now and jot down whether your conversations are bringing you closer to your dreams or farther away. An example of a relationship that does not add value to you/ your dreams is centered on discussing other people. Do yourself a favor and distance yourself.

3. Accountability Partner

An accountability partner is someone with who you share your goals and give feedback on what you have done including the next steps as well. Having an accountability partner pushes you to take action because you have to report back on the results. Some of the characteristics of an ideal accountability partner are;

  • Someone who has your best interest at heart (has nothing to lose or gain from you).
  • A person of character.
  • One who will give you constructive feedback.
  • Excellent encourager.
  • Trustworthy one
  • Non- judgmental and leaves room for your growth.

4. Review your goals

You have probably heard this saying countless times, out of sight, out of mind. Our day-to-day routines, going to work, school, cleaning up the house, and just making sure everything is in order might cause us to forget our dreams and goals. We might be busy all day but in the end, you realize you did not do anything that is meant to take you closer to your goals. Constantly reviewing your goals will keep your mind focused on them. You can go a step further in keeping your dreams and goals in front of you by creating a vision board. Place your vision board where you can see it daily. Asking yourself questions like, What can I do today that can put me a step closer to my goals helps you to keep your goals

5. Gratitude

Having a grateful heart as compared to a complacent one allows you to finish your race strong and in a positive way. When you focus on things that you are grateful for, it allows you to feel energized positively. On the other hand, complaining sucks/ drains your energy. Think about all the times you complain, how do you feel afterward?. Try to focus on your area of influence. When we focus on things that we have no direct power to change like the government, we resort to complacency and complacency drains our energy. By intentionally being grateful on your journey, you are creating a positive environment and set yourself up for success. Keeping a gratitude journal will help you become intentional about being grateful.

I encourage you to finish strong and live a fulfilled life as the best version of you. You got this!
