Success Is Subjective~ What’s Authentic To You?

With The End In Mind
Hey you, this is the end of your life, but one thing I would like for you to do is to take a look at how you lived your life. Would you say you have been successful? Most importantly how do you know you have been successful or unsuccessful? We all have an allocated amount of time here on earth and a majority of us spend it chasing “success”. Imagine you are at the end of your life, are you pleased with what you have been chasing? Would you say you have lived a fulfilled life at the end of it all?
Good thing you are still alive and in the arena chasing whatever you are chasing.
How would you define success?
Success is living as your authentic self and living up to the standards one holds themselves to and evolving into the best version of yourself without the fear of comparison while living a fulfilled life. ~ personal growth strategies
I gave this definition for success because it allows you to define what success is to you.
Whose success are you living/ chasing?
One of the reasons why many people are unhappy and miserable is because we are chasing other people’s definition of success. What society says is acceptable or what society rewards. There are so many ways in which we are encouraged to measure success, the positions that we hold, the amount of money we make in a year, and the age at which we get married or graduate. All this is amazing, but the most important thing is ” Is it your path as an individual”. Living in someone else definition of success is the highest form of being unsuccessful. The world may clap for you, but if your heart communicates a “this is not it” message all the applause is worth nothing. We tend to be so focused on being the next Mark Zuckerberg that many of us are missing the point of being.
Impact Vs Fame
I work as a content strategist creating copy for different organizations and brands. One of the things that break my heart is most organizations’ vision and mission statement. It’s all the same now ” To be the leading in the industry” To be the number one in the world. Many are turning away from impact to fame, to get the world’s applause. What we do not understand is the impact is what gets us to the top which is a success. The top is subjective, success is subjective. The Top for one organization might be to serve one state/ region, and that does not mean the organization will not have the capacity to make fortunes. The Top for the next organization might mean serving the whole world, and that does not make the other organization any lesser. To achieve real success that is authentic to you, we ought to be comfortable being different. If you bring value into whatever you are doing, it will grow despite how insignificant it may seem.
Take Gigi Buttler, Cupcake Lady for example
Gigi Buttler was a cleaner who later found success in selling cupcakes. Yes, cupcakes! Cupcakes don’t sound like a million-dollar idea but Gigi, later on, got to be an inspiration to many earning the name cupcake lady as well as featuring in a number of Tedtalks. To get inspired by Gigi click here.
I am truly living the American Dream. I am so blessed to be able to do what makes me happy and make a product that so many people really enjoy. ~ Gigi Buttler
Whatever your heart is telling you to do, even if it seems insignificant do it.
If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you will fall into someone else’s plan and guess what they may have planned for you, not much ~ Jim Rohn
Success is Subjective Take Time To Define it for you
I have a challenge for you, before you tune into the outside noise, take time to define what success means to you. Dare to create a vision that is deeply rooted in value, not fame, in fulfillment, not applause. Recognize that which makes you unique and of importance to you. Don’t judge other people’s success. We all find success in different things, don’t criticize what does not make sense to you. Block the noise to critics and see yourself soar above like an eagle.
We only have one life so make sure you don’t live it trying to archive the next person’s definition of success while neglecting your own.
