Raise your standards to change the quality of your life.

It’s no secret that you get in life what you tolerate. We might not want to admit this and blame everything on our outward circumstances. But really the decisions you make in response to the circumstance are a reflection of your standards. Let’s try to put this in a relatable example. If your standard is to stay fit, healthy and in certain body shape, you wouldn’t eat unhealthy just because someone offered it to you. Yes,, it was offered to you ‘ outward circumstance’ but the decision on whether to eat it or not was yours ‘ reflected your standards’. Disclaimer: To be able to uphold your standards you have got to learn to take 100% responsibility for your life and drop the blame game.

How to raise your standards

The level of success in any area of your life is directly proportional to your standards in that area. Your standards are your ‘musts’ and not your ‘shoulds’, your should is something you do when you feel like it and your must is something you do regardless of your feelings i.e it’s your standard. Making it a must allows you not to settle for less. I must have a clutter-free home, I must start that business, I must have a passionate relationship. The list is endless. To raise your standards, turn your shoulds into musts ‘Tony Robbins’. Lastly, you have got to normalise opposition when it comes to raising your standards.

Raising your standards require:

  • discipline
  • Consitence
  • Focus and commitment

Areas you can raise your standards in.

Business

Success in your business is determined by the standards you uphold the most in your organization. Are you mostly focused on the revenue and depreciating your goodwill with misconduct associated with your business. Is your standard providing your clients with the best value. At the end of the day, people buy people as well as the organization culture as compared to the actual product. Take a look at your business and put into consideration the standards you should implement to acquire  long-term success.

Physical Body and Health

You probably heard of this statement, your health is your wealth. The standards you set for your physical fitness and health will determine whether your wake up and have a donut early morning or you go for a healthy breakfast. If you have a standard to be fit and energetic you probably go to the gym or workout for at least four times a week. Look at your body, energy level, and health. guess what that is the reflection of your standards. The good news is if you don’t like it you can change it.

Relationships.

Again your relationships are a reflection of your standards, there are different types of relationships and you will need to set different standards accordingly. This area is one where most people are likely to settle for less. Some people are in unhappy relationships because their standard is that they must be in a relationship, not that they must have passion and excitement and pure joy and love. Some are not in relationships because heir standard is I must not be hurt. Sarah Jakes Roberts once mentioned ‘ What you are asking for isn’t far-fetched. you are just asking it from the wrong people. You cant expect shallow people to catch deep balls. So don’t lower your standards to meet the height of their character. Make someone stand tall to be in your life or be okay with them walking away.

Spiritual Life

One of my favorite but underrated areas mainly because everyone is so focused on this fast life that we forget to feed our spiritual being. In as much as 2020 has been so difficult for a lot of people all over the world, I am grateful it allowed us to just stop and slow down to refocus our energy. When your standard is to grow spiritually its no surprise you take time to meditate or have time set aside to spend with God.

These are not all the areas you can consider raising your standard but this will give you somewhere to start. Rember to change the quality of your life you need to raise your standards

  1. I absolutely agree with all these points laid put here. Indeed our standards shape where we are going with our lives and definitely the amount and definition of success to individuals. Reasonable standards will help us to live our best lives!
