30 Day Proactivity Challenge.

The way we live our lives is dependent on our perspective. To change or improve the quality of our living, we ought to have a paradigm shift. Paradigm is an example serving as a model, pattern, or template. I also like to view it as a system of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality. Just like when it comes to offense, 90% of it comes from perspective. Half the time the individual did not intend to offend you, but the way you viewed it made you take in the offense. To move from ordinary to extraordinary we will need to have a paradigm shift ( moving from one way of seeing the world to another) and that requires one to be proactive, not reactive/passive.

When you are proactive in an area in your life, growth is inevitable. Let’s take for example if you are proactive in your health, you probably go for a health check-up at least once a year and perhaps workout and watch your diet too. This way you get to find out about any deficiency in your body before it becomes a major problem. If you are proactive at your workplace, you are probably one step ahead of your supervisor and you don’t have to be micro-managed all the time. Nobody likes to be micromanaged. Another area where proactivity can make you succeed is in your relationships. Let’s say you are proactive in your communication in relationships and not waiting for things to hang by a thread for you to address it. Having those conversations at point easy vs point critical. I think that would make you enjoy your relationships better.

Being Proactive will shift your perspective from I am waiting for things to change to I can change the things around me. It allows you to take 100% responsibility for your life.

Proactive: Active means doing and the prefix pro means before. So to be proactive means to be ready before something happens.

Reactive: waiting for things to unfold before responding.

Proactive People.

  • they don’t blame circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behavior, their behavior is a product of their own conscious choice, based on values rather than a product of their conditions
  • they carry their own weather with them
  • value-driven
  • their approach to a mistake is to acknowledge it instantly, correct it, and learn from it.
  • They focus on the circle of influence rather than the circle of concern
  • A proactive approach is to change inside out.

Circle of Concern – filled with have’s focuses on the weakness of people and circumstances.

Circle of Influence – filled with be’s and character focus

Reactive People.

  • Often affected by the physical environment especially their social environment.
  • They build their emotional lives around the behavior of others
  • they are driven by feelings, circumstances, conditions, and environment
  • Their approach to mistakes is blame
  • They focus on the circle os concern rather than the circle of influence

Just like any habit worth having, you have to be intentional about being a proactive individual. Let’s challenge each other to go on a 30 Day Proactivity Challenge. You can send me stories about your progress and the results and I will share your stories on this blog.

For 30 Days I am focusing on my circle of influence

  1. I must be intentional to my responses this month
  2. I should make small commitments and keep them.
  3. I should be a light, not a judge, a model, not a critic, be part of the solution, not the problem
  4. When I make a mistake, I have to admit it, correct it and learn from it immediately
  5. I should turn off the blaming, accusing mode, and work on things I have control over. ( work on me)
  6. I am responsible for my own effectiveness, my happiness and ultimately for most of my circumstances
  7. You can add anything to this list
