Your Input = Your Output: The Power Of Content You Are Constantly Consuming

How did we come from an era where hearing someone swear or speak vulgarly was despicable to an era where swearing and vulgarity are part of a lot of people’s day-to-day conversation? People react to anger, joy, and disappointment with swearing. The truth is, this culture was imposed on many through the entertainment industry. Movies swore, and the crazy part is the narrative always came out as we are being “real” and giving space to fully express ourselves. What we don’t understand is that they were feeding people with data (input) and therefore influencing the culture. As the receiver, when you hear/ watch or surround yourself with something long enough, you begin to show the fruit, your output. Thousands of hours of listening to music with swearing in it will eventually normalize swearing, and the cycle goes on. Well, I am not here to talk about the entertainment industry; this is simply an illustration to showcase that whatever you feed yourself, you will eventually bring out. What you constantly bring out becomes who you are.

Personal growth is all about intentionality, and one of the areas you need to be intentional about is your daily information consumption, because eventually that will affect the way you live your life. In a world where we are overwhelmed with content everywhere, we have to be careful about what we let in through our eyes and ears because that is how we feed our minds. If you want to make better financial decisions and most of your content consumption focuses on people spending, you will, in turn, lean towards spending despite your goals.

Not making a conscious decision on what you want to feed your inner self is making a decision. Living on autopilot means making a decision. Whatever content you come across and consume, or whatever trends your friends and your surroundings are hopping on to, you end up reflecting that. While you are on a mission to become the best version of yourself, don’t take the decision of what you choose to consume lightly. Every time you are consuming a piece of content, ask yourself if this is what you want to see come out of you. If yes, you may continue; if no, turn that content piece off.

Stand Guard at the door of your mind – Every time you are consuming a piece of content, ask yourself if this is what you want to see come out of you. If yes, you may continue; if no, turn that content piece off.

You can get to know a person by the books they read, movies they watch, and documentaries they obsess over. Take a good look at the content one consumes, and you will get a glimpse of who they are. One of the biggest lies we tell ourselves is “ I am just listening, watching, and it does not really affect me.” You might not see the effects now, but definitely, your output will show. If we want to be the best version of ourselves, we need to be selective about what we allow into our minds. The bible talks about how if we want transformation, we should have a renewal of the mind. What you are feeding your mind plays a part in the process of renewing your mind.

The personal growth strategy to help you live as the best version of yourself today is to be intentional about what you are putting into your inner self.
