What’s In Your Hands? Growth demands Resourcefulness

Resources And Reaching Your Goals

If you are asked why you haven’t reached your goals/ why you are not functioning at your full potential, how would you respond? The majority of people’s answers would pinpoint a lack of resources. You may not be starting on that business that is on your heart because of time, capital, or you just might not be taking care of your health because a healthy lifestyle is ‘expensive’, right? All these are resources. Does the availability of resources make it easy for us to go after what God has placed on our hearts? Absolutely!! But does that mean the moment you notice a lack of resources, you give in without trying? As a student of personal growth, your answer should be no. One of the personal growth strategies tips that will allow you to live as the best version of yourself is the art of being resourceful.

Are Resources The Issue?

Take two individuals: one from a wealthy background with access to resources, and another from a not-so-good background. Sometimes, the individual with all the resources available might not turn out well in life, not because they did not have the opportunity to. On the other hand, the individual without access to resources and opportunities might turn out well. Why? Because they are resourceful. They make the time, even if it’s an inconvenience. They look for other ways to get what they are after.

Growth is uncomfortable, and part of that discomfort comes from having to be resourceful because it stretches you. As we strive to be as practical as possible with these personal growth tips, here are some of the ways to help you become resourceful.

  1. Research

If you want to become a resourceful person, you have to fall in love with research. Merriam-Webster dictionary defines research as studious inquiry or examination, especially investigation or experimentation aimed at the discovery and interpretation of facts, revision of accepted theories or laws in the light of new facts, or practical application of such new or revised theories or laws. Cambridge Dictionary, on the other hand, describes research as a detailed study of a subject, especially in order to discover new information about something or reach a new understanding of it.

Let’s zoom in on the revision of accepted theories or laws in the light of new facts for a second. This, I believe, is the art of being resourceful, looking for other ways to go around that resource you might think is stopping you from achieving your goals by utilizing what you already have. Say your goal is to lose weight, the first thought might be to go to the gym. The reality is, you may not have the resources to do so, money for the membership, time, or accessibility. Instead of pushing the goal aside until you have all the resources available to you, research will help you become resourceful because you will find out that being at the gym is about moving your body. Ask yourself, besides the gym, how else can I move my body and burn fat? You will find that things like walking and running will help. If you have a mobile phone or tablet, you can access workouts. That’s being resourceful

  1. Have A Problem Solving Mentality

Resourcefulness is simply problem-solving. A lack of resources means you have reached a roadblock to your goals, and the question becomes what can I do to overcome this. Your limited resource might be time; your question becomes, how can I make time? Does that mean sleeping a little late, waking up a little earlier, or trading the time I spend binge-watching or scrolling on socials? No money becomes how can I achieve this without the money, or what skills do I have that can help me make the money? Hitting a roadblock in your personal growth due to resources is an opportunity to problem-solve.

  1. Develop An Abundant Mindset

A scarcity mindset is a major limitation to becoming a resourceful person because you are constantly thinking there isn’t enough. When you have a scarcity mindset, it reflects in your actions and decisions. It stops you from being resourceful because you believe there is no space for more. You believe resources are limited; if you don’t have the resources, that means there is no space for you because the resources are allocated somewhere else. This kind of space does not allow us to live as the best version of ourselves, nor does it allow us space to grow. We have abundance, God has given us abundance, He has equipped us with everything we need to fulfil the goals he has placed on our hearts.

John 10: 10 Amp

10 The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].

Now, let’s answer the question again. Why haven’t you reached your goals/ why are you not functioning to your full potential? Furthermore, how can you use resourcefulness to move past the reason?
