A Grateful Stance Yields An Abundant Life. 10 Prompts For Your Gratitude Journaling Journey.
In one of the previous blog posts, we spoke about how our state affects the decisions we make. When one is feeling too sad, they might not want to do anything, and when we are too excited, we may say yes to everything and regret it later. Just like how our state affects the decisions we make, sometimes the state that we are in affects the way that we show up in our daily lives. In today’s post, we are going to talk about how being in a simple state of gratitude can help you show up as the best version of yourself, as well as help propel you to achieving your dreams and goals.
To live in a state of gratitude requires intentionality. With life’s busy schedules, plans not going as intended, bad news hitting from different angles, heartache and sickness, it’s easy to fall off the state of gratitude. During those times, that is when we need to fight with gratitude. That is why, when faced with anxiety, the bible urges us to use the strategy of gratitude to help us overcome anxiety & depression.
Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. Philippians 4vs 6 AMP
Living from a state of gratitude does not depend on everything going your way, but requires you to intentionally focus on what you are grateful for in your life.

What Is A State of Gratitude
When you live from a state of gratitude, you are thankful for what you have and intentionally count your blessings, setting your mind to constantly seek that which you are grateful for. This also applies to those moments when life is seemingly not going your way. A state of gratitude also stems from trusting in God’s plans for your life. If you believe you deserve to experience the good, you begin to see the good even in your now. It’s also a belief that good is available to you in the future.
I love how Tony Robbins puts it;
“ It is a conscious choice that acts as an antidote to negative emotions, and transforms your perspective from that of scarcity to one of abundance.”
Benefits of Living from a State of Gratitude
- It can give you energy to show up in your day-to-day. Have you ever noticed that when you are drowning in complacency, it drains your energy? If you do show up, you do so with half-baked energy instead of excellence.
- You begin to expect good things. It shifts your mind from a scarcity to abundance.
- Reduces stress and anxiety. Remember, gratitude acts as an antidote to negative emotions.
- Increases resilience. Cultivating gratitude strengthens your mental and emotional resilience, making it easier to cope with challenges and bounce back from adversity. It helps you find the silver lining in difficult situations, giving you a more optimistic outlook.
- Improves your overall physical health. Research has shown that those who live in a state of gratitude are more likely to have better sleep and less likely to suffer from diseases, whereas those who live with stress and anxiety are more likely to fall sick.
Practical Steps Of Living In A State Of Gratitude
Daily journal
Intentionally writing down what you are grateful for, especially in difficult seasons or on difficult days, helps you to reposition yourself to a state of gratitude. Sometimes I ask myself to write 10 things I am grateful for. By the time I get to number five, my stance will be different. Somehow, I have the energy to show up and look at life from a positive angle instead of drowning.
